Where Dignity Lives: A Family’s Reflection on End-of-Life Care at Huron Shores Hospice

At Huron Shores Hospice, we are deeply honoured to walk alongside individuals and families during some of life’s most tender moments. When families choose to share their experience with us, their words become a powerful reflection of compassion, dignity, and connection. We are grateful to share the following message from Steve Neeb, whose heartfelt reflection speaks to the care his mother and family received during her time with us.
"While there are many chinks in our healthcare armour, it was very satisfying to see the support given to our Mother during her struggles at end of life. This cannot be more clear than her stay at Huron Shores Hospice. Throughout her time, we saw nothing other than complete professionalism and a commitment to preserving her dignity at end of life, all of which brought immeasurable comfort to both her and our family.
Words cannot express the gratitude towards the staff and volunteers who attended to her every need. Demonstrating remarkable kindness and sensitivity, she was provided not only excellent medical support but also provided a peaceful atmosphere of respect and compassion. We were also grateful for the same kindness and support given to us whenever visiting. Their level of attention was comforting and allowed us to focus on Mom when we were at the Hospice and reduced the stress of her care when we were not. All of this allowed us to navigate a very difficult time with grace.
During difficult times like this, it is sometimes easy to forget some of the great options and facilities that are in our own back yard; Huron Shores Hospice is one of those facilities. No where else could she have had the level of support she received there, leaving an everlasting memory of deep respect and appreciation."
