Ripples Begin with Witnessing: From the Heart of Our End-of-Life Doula

"Huron Shores Hospice was born from compassion — from witnessing loved ones die without the dignity, comfort, and care every person deserves. Out of that deep concern to better support the dying came a vision: to build a space where compassion guides every moment of life’s final journey.

It began with just a few — three women determined to make a difference, and early supporters like Duncan Hawthorne whose generosity and championship helped turn an idea into reality. Their belief in the power of one act of kindness set the first ripple in motion.

Today, those ripples continue through every decision our staff and volunteers make. From board and committee members, fundraising and administrative volunteers to Comfort Care and Specialized Volunteers and our dedicated staff, each person contributes to a culture of compassion and dignity. Together, we create waves of care that touch every bedside, every family, and every heart.

What began as one small ripple of love has grown into a lasting wave of comfort for our community and I couldn’t be prouder to volunteer for this organization."
