The Importance of Caregiving

Huron Shores Hospice is pleased to have Eugene Dufour as a guest speaker at an upcoming free workshop held at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine on November 1st at 1:00 p.m. Eugene is a clinically trained therapist, author, and international speaker. He will share how to enhance your skills and bring more balance to your caregiving.

This workshop will focus on two important aspect of caregiving – giving and receiving. Participants will receive practical and useful information on how to develop the art and skill of giving compassionate care. The workshop will also present current information and research on the importance of self-care (receiving) which will empower us to provide empathic care. If caregivers focus on the importance of giving and receiving, then we can authentically walk with people’s misery and mystery as they search for wholeness.

Life as a caregiver can seem like a hectic whirlwind. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the steep learning curve and the sheer number of things that need to get done! Staying organized is key.

In this workshop we will share tips, reflect on our experiences and create a simple tool called a Care Map. A care map is a drawing of the people involved in providing care to the caregiver and the care recipient, allowing us to easily see and understand the connections between the people involved. We will also share local resources that can help you in your caregiver journey.

For experienced caregivers or someone about to dive in, come connect with us and learn how to stay organized and stay in control.

We will be hosting Death Cafés in Port Elgin in November.

Death cafes provide an opportunity to drink tea or coffee, eat dessert, and discuss death. It is a group-directed discussion with no agenda, objectives, or themes, not a grief support or counseling session. We aim to normalize the conversation around dying and death.
