Are you a summer student eager to make a meaningful impact in your community? Look no further! Huron Shores Hospice is excited to announce a unique opportunity for passionate individuals to join our team as a Community Development Worker for a 9-week contract position.


The Opportunity

At Huron Shores Hospice, we're dedicated to providing quality of life at the end of life. We offer compassionate, holistic care and support to individuals with life-limiting illnesses, extending our services to their family members, caregivers, and those grieving the loss of a loved one.


The Community Development Worker will support the execution of programing offered through Huron Shores Hospice. With guidance from the Executive Director, the incumbent will be responsible for the coordination, planning and evaluation of various programs including Grief Recovery, End of Life Doula, Death Cafes and End of Life Education. The successful candidate will also assist in volunteer scheduling, management and communications.  Responsibilities may also include database management, survey analysis, research and administrative support for program related committees. 


Working with the Community Engagement Coordinator, the Community Development Worker will have the opportunity to assist with outreach and promotion for our community programs and fundraising endeavors, distributing to and advertising in the target communities.  The position will also include assisting the Community Engagement Coordinator in tasks related to fundraising and event planning.


The Community Development Worker will provide administrative support to the Executive Director as required, helping to ensure that both our community programming and our residential hospice services are of exceptional quality.


Skills and Aptitudes:     

  • Understanding of the organization’s mission.       

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, good organizational skills, flexibility, effective interpersonal skills, good attention to detail and be able to work independently from home if required by COVID restrictions.

  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and familiarity with social media platforms.

  • Experience with Canva or similar software as well as database management would be an advantage.


Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this position, you must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.

  • Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee status has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

  • Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.


Contract Details

  • Contract Length: 9 weeks

  • Job Type: Full-time

  • Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm

  • Location: In person
