If you’ve been following Living Well Giving Well on Rogers TV or YouTube, you’ve seen how this inspiring series brings together local charities and non-profits to explore legacy giving and end-of-life planning.
We’re proud to be part of this initiative, helping raise awareness about compassionate care and the choices that can shape one’s final chapter. In a recent episode, the spotlight turns to a lesser-known but deeply meaningful form of support—end-of-life doula support.
In this episode, we’re honoured to share the perspective of Maria Riggin, one of our Comfort Care volunteers and a trained End-of-Life Doula with Huron Shores Hospice.
End-of-Life Doulas provide emotional, spiritual, and practical support to individuals and families from the moment of a life-limiting diagnosis—long before hospice care begins. Their work helps ease fear, reduce isolation, and bring a sense of peace and dignity to the end-of-life experience.
Whether it’s offering a listening ear, gentle touch, legacy planning, or simply being present, doulas walk alongside people through one of life’s most profound transitions.
Maria shares her personal insight into this role and how the work of an End-of-Life Doula can provide deep comfort, connection, and meaning to those nearing the end of life.
You can find more episodes of Living Well Giving Well on Youtube, featuring our community partners such as Brightshores Health System, Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation, Centre Grey Health Services Foundation, Community Foundation Grey Bruce, Georgian Bay Symphony, Grey Bruce Hospice, Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce, Home & Community Support Services Grey-Bruce, Meaford Hospital Foundation, Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation, The Women's Centre Grey Bruce, and YMCA Owen Sound Grey Bruce.
These organizations are working together to raise awareness about the importance of legacy giving and end-of-life planning, helping make a lasting impact on our communities.
