About the Event

About the Lecture:

This lecture will help us dive into an understanding, in how to safeguard ourselves from “compassion fatigue” and ‘vicarious trauma.’ We will learn ways to help create safe spaces for ourselves, when dealing with end-of-life care, and learn how to creatively infuse ‘resiliency in the field’ in end of life.

We will examine our role of vulnerability and ritual in our area of compassionate care, and bring awareness to ways to keep us healthy in mind and body, and prevent us from burnout, or empathetic distress.

We will discuss researched and proven strategies of self-compassion and mindfulness to foster care for ourselves so we remain well, while serving in all end-of-life roles.

About The Speaker:

Community Advisor, Lighthouse for Grieving Children Rami Shami has been serving within Hospice Palliative Care for over three decades. He feels privileged to practice as a Consultant in Hospice Palliative Care, as well as Case Manager for the Second Mile Club at Kensington Health, and the Community Relations Advisor for Lighthouse for Grieving Children.

While harvesting a conviction that everyone should have access to quality Hospice Palliative Care, Rami strongly advocates and supports the development and growth of programs and services for those travelling the journey of a life-limiting illness, their caregivers, and those who are bereaved.
