will3727

We’re excited to share our latest newsletter with you! Inside, you’ll find updates about what’s ahead in 2025, including upcoming community groups fundraisers, and meaningful ways you can continue to make a difference with us this year.

If you’d like to stay connected and receive updates like this directly in your inbox, we invite you to subscribe to our mailing list. We’d love to keep you in the loop!

As we get through these cold winter months, we hope you’ve been safe, warm, and well. With signs of spring starting to show, we’re reminded that brighter days are just ahead. Even though the weather is still chilly, we’re feeling hopeful and excited for what’s to come.

In this month’s newsletter, you’ll find updates on our programs, upcoming events, and ways you can help support end-of-life care in our community.

We are so thankful for your support and look forward to all we can do together in the coming months.

With warm wishes,

The Staff and Board of Huron Shores Hospice

With Your Help, We're Growing Together

Since opening our first suite in May 2018, Huron Shores Hospice has proudly supported over 170 families, with 36 families served in 2024 alone. As we look ahead, we’re excited for what’s to come, and your feedback helps guide our next steps.

Last month, we invited the community to take part in a survey for our strategic planning. We’re so thankful for the many responses, especially from those of you who read our newsletter. Your kind words and feedback inspire us and remind us how important it is to have compassionate end-of-life care available in our area.

We’ve learned a lot from what you shared, and we’re excited to grow in a way that meets the needs of the community we serve. You gave us valuable ideas about what you’d like to see in our care, facilities, programs, new support services, and more.

There was a lot of positive feedback about our existing programs, such as the End-of-Life Planning workshops, Death Cafés, and Grief Groups. We’re happy to share that we’ll be offering plenty of these programs in March and April! More details can be found in this newsletter.

We also heard that the community would like us to do more outreach to help people better understand what we do and the programs and services we provide at no cost. If you belong to a club, group, or service organization and would like to learn more, we’d love to connect!

Please contact will@huronshoreshospice.ca to arrange a presentation, or simply reply to this email!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Your feedback is helping us improve, and we’re excited to see what we can accomplish together.

Registration Now Open for the

9th Annual Hike for Hospice!

We’re excited to announce that registration is now open for the 9th Annual Hike for Hospice on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at the Davidson Centre! This year, we have set an ambitious goal of $70,000, and we know you can help us reach it!

The Hike for Hospice is a non-competitive walk along the beautiful Kincardine trails. It’s not just about walking — it’s a chance to come together as a community and connect with our staff, volunteers, families we’ve served, and others who care about end-of-life care. It’s a day to spend with wonderful people all supporting a great cause.

After the hike, join us for a BBQ by donation at the Davidson Centre. Enjoy some food, chat with friends, and celebrate the compassion that makes our work possible.

Every dollar you raise will help us provide hospice care and support families in our community. We can't wait to see what we achieve together!

Join the Challenge and Win Prizes

Are you ready for some friendly competition? Gather your friends, family, or coworkers, and team up to raise the most pledges. The top fundraisers will win amazing prizes and earn bragging rights for the year — so there’s plenty to play for!

Keep track of the competition by following the leaderboards on Facebook and Instagram. Right now, there’s only one name at the top — but I may have gotten a little head start! Let’s see who can knock me off the top spot!

A Special Thank You to Our Title Sponsor, NPX

NPX has been a longtime supporter of Huron Shores Hospice, generously helping behind the scenes and sponsoring many events in our past. This year, they are once again providing free t-shirts to the first hikers who register — so be sure to sign up early! T-shirts are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Thank you, NPX, for your continued support and dedication to our community!

Have any questions or need help getting started?

Thank you for your amazing support. Together, we can make this the best Hike for Hospice yet. We can’t wait to see you on May 10th!

At Huron Shores Hospice, we understand that dying and death can bring difficult emotions and challenges. That’s why we offer a variety of programs to support individuals and families at each stage of this journey. We aim to provide guidance, create a safe space for open conversations, and help people find comfort as they navigate these experiences.

All of our programs are offered at no cost, and they are available in Huron-Kinloss, Kincardine, and Saugeen Shores. Whether you're making end-of-life plans, coping with grief, or looking for a place to openly discuss death, these groups are designed to provide information, connection, and compassionate support.

Talking about death can feel uncomfortable, and many people try to avoid it. But death is a natural part of life, and talking about it can actually bring us peace—both for ourselves and our loved ones.

That’s why we're hosting three Death Cafés this spring—a friendly space where you can talk about dying and death in a relaxed and safe way. Imagine sitting down with a cup of tea, enjoying a slice of cake, and chatting with others who want to talk openly. It’s not a support group or counseling; it’s simply a chance to have an honest conversation without any pressure.

There is no agenda, no course of action, no set conclusions, and absolutely no judgment. Our trained facilitators will guide the conversation and make sure everyone feels comfortable. You can share as much or as little as you want. You don’t need to be going through grief to join.

Talking about death now can help you share your wishes with your family, so they’re not left guessing when the time comes. It’s not just about the end—it’s about living with more peace, knowing that you’ve talked about what matters to you.

We’re excited to partner with some amazing local businesses and organizations to host these Death Café gatherings. Their support makes it possible for us to offer this important opportunity to our community.

Catch Us on TV:

Watch our Episodes of Living Well, Giving Well

If you've been watching Rogers TV over the past few months, you might have seen episodes of Living Well Giving Well—an initiative that brings together a variety of local charities and non-profits, working together to raise awareness for legacy giving.

Legacy giving, or planned giving, lets people make big gifts to causes they care about after they pass away. This can be done through things like wills, trusts, or life insurance. It helps causes like Huron Shores Hospice make a difference for years to come. We’re proud to be part of this effort and help spread the word about these important topics.

In one episode, Judy Rich, local lawyer and former Huron Shores Hospice board member, explains options for people who don’t have a trusted family member or friend to manage their estate. She shares how corporate trustees can step in to handle your affairs, ensuring your wishes are carried out with care and professionalism.

Another episode features Cheryl Cottrill, one of our founding directors and an end-of-life doula. Cheryl talks about how thoughtful end-of-life planning can ease the journey for both individuals and their families. She shares how making your wishes known in advance can bring comfort, dignity, and peace of mind during life's final chapter.

Thank you to Living Well Giving Well Grey Bruce, Rogers TV, and talk show hosts Denise Reid and Fred Wallace for highlighting these important conversations. We encourage you to check out other episodes from the program, featuring local organizations making a difference in our community.
